What is AphidLiv?
AphidLiv contains mummified aphids mixed with sawdust. Aphidius colemani is a parasitic wasp that specifically targets aphids. These tiny wasps seek out aphid colonies by sensing the signals of infected plants as well as detecting the aphid’s honeydew secretions. Parasitization occurs when a female Aphidius lays an egg inside an aphid, which then hatches and eats the aphid from the inside before pupating. The pupating wasp causes the outer shell of the aphid’s body to harden into a leathery, golden-brown “mummy” from which an adult wasp then emerges. Each female can lay about 200-300 eggs in its lifetime, and may attack more aphids in the process.
Aphidius colemani does not attack potato aphid. If after release you don’t see any aphid mummies conduct an aphid identification.
