How to use CaliLiv (Neoseiulus californicus) sachets
What’s in the CaliLiv Sachets?
- Predator: Neoseiulus californicus
- Carrier: Sterilized bran mixture
- Food: Feeder mite and a mixture of macros
How to use N. californicus sachets:
- For best results place sachet inside the plant canopy where humidity is higher, and temps are cooler than the ambient climate.
- Don’t hang sachets in areas with strong winds from ventilators/fans
- Avoid direct sunlight, it dries the sachets microenvironment and creates excessive heat which can kill the mites quickly.
- Don't make the release hole bigger for faster release. A bigger hole will decrease the moisture inside the sachet.
- Avoid washing plants or top watering
Can you store N. californicus sachets?
We recommend placing the sachets in the crop immediately upon arrival.
If storage is necessary sachets can be stored for 1-2 days at room temperature in a dark, humid place (RH 60% or more). Avoid any contact with direct sunlight.
How to promote establishment?
To achieve optimal results the most important factor is humidity. If there isn’t enough moisture in the sachet, the food chain will end and starve the predatory mites. The predatory mite eggs and larval stages are also very sensitive to low humidity, constant dry conditions will significantly decrease the egg hatch-ability. The relative humidity for sachets needs to be at least 70% or higher.
How to check if my sachets are still producing predatory mites?
After 4-6 weeks you should check if your sachets are still producing predatory mites or if it’s time to replace them. To check, open up a few sachets from different areas in the greenhouse. Use a 10x lens to check for fast moving mites. If you don’t see any predatory mites, it’s time for a replacement.
How often should you be reordering?
Sachets normally last 4-6 weeks before requiring a replacement.
